saga trees

Earlier this week I took myself off to draw tree roots. On a practical level they are easier to draw than branches – no neck strain! I just love tree root forms - how they contort, and grow around and over obstacles. They really are a delight to draw. I am planning to use these drawings as the basis for a some embossed paper images.

Beautiful sketch! I agree with your sentiments on tree roots. They are quite amazing.

Hey, thanks! We have some incredible trees around here. I'm thinking of drawing some strangler figs - they literally grow up other trees creating a kind of lattice and eventually kill of the host!

So beautiful! I love how your pencil lines seem so effortless and natural, almost like the roots are growing out of the paper. So soft and dripping in elegance.

Thanks Evie. I felt very relaxed drawing this - there was no-one around (well for most of the time), just me and tree. I want to go out now and draw but it's raining too much!

That's a gorgeous sketch, very relaxing to study.

Trees are such a lovely form, I come back to them again and again.
